Built by the Fatimids in 970 AD, Al Azhar Mosque stands to be one of the most historically important mosques in Islam. Built as a place of worship and teaching, this monument serves as an influential moderating and regulating authority for Islamic theology. Al Azhar Mosque has a beautiful marble court, a large, covered prayer area, and two madrassas (universities). From the courtyard you can see its three largest minarets built in 1340, 1469, and 1510 respectively from the right minaret to the left minaret viewed from the courtyard.
